As of March 29, Mike's tumor markers have improved; however, his hCG levels remain well above the normal range. Following surgery, his levels dropped from 6,300 to approximately 1,400, but they need to fall below 15 to be considered within normal limits. A CT scan revealed spots on his lungs, and we are currently awaiting MRI results to determine whether the cancer has spread to his brain. Post-surgical pathology identified two types of cancer cells, with 50% classified as the more aggressive form.
We've met with a couple different oncologists and had several more medical consultations as we are exploring treatment options. We have been told by everyone thus far that we need to act quickly in whatever direction we choose.
While the local clinic had a kind team, Mike had a check in his spirit about pursuing chemotherapy. After much prayer, we both believed the Lord was moving us in a different direction entirely. This has been confimed by people in our home group, friends, and family who have been diligently praying with us.
Right now, we are looking into holistic cancer clinics in Mexico and two options here in the states, but not local to Chattanooga or North Georgia. Cancer always has a root cause. We are happy to discover there are many wonderful facilities that focus on healing the cause and the cancer. Currently, the two we are leaning towards the most offer an integrative approach. Most facilities have 3-6 week stays where the patients undergo 6-8 hours a day of treatments 6 days a week.
As you may know, we travel everywhere as a family. For Michael to be gone this long will be very difficult on our boys. Right now we are asking for prayer over these areas:
The MRI results and a clear scan!
Choosing a clinic and treatment plan
The hearts and minds of our four boys - security and peace
One of the sections of scripture we memorized as a family this year is Proverbs chapter three. While verse 5-6 is commonly quoted, it resonates even deeper now.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths."
Feels simple, right? But my understanding says something very different than the Lord's. He has to give me spiritual eyes to see and a heavenly perspective. So that's what we're asking for - eyes to see and ears to hear how and when He wants to move.
Father in Heaven, open and shut doors as You see fit. We submit our ways, our understanding to Your good is perfect will. We trust in Your timing and surrender to You, knowing "in You and through You all things consist". Make our paths straight. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
We agree with you guys in this prayer! In your corner! 🫂 🕊️ 🙏🏽 🤍
