Trains, Planes, and Automobiles

Steve Martin was a favorite of my dad's (and something Michael and I shared with him), so when I think of traveling more than a quick beach trip down to Florida, I think of this silly title. Although we hope to avoid trains - and the fiascos of that ridiculous movie - we will be leaving for Mexico on Sunday.

After a few weeks of prayer and over a dozen consultations later, Michael chose to receive treatment at the Immunity Therapy Center. We had one door after another close, and continued to see the Lord leading him there. ITC is a full-service integrative medical hospital that provides a wide range of therapies to focus on building his immunity, detoxing, giving his body what it needs to heal or kill cancer cells, and they can provide a targeted form of chemotherapy (along with other traditional treatments) if he needs additional support.

He'll be there a minimum of three weeks, and I'll travel down with him the first week before coming home to be with the kids. As many of you know, we have never been away for more than a few days at a time and almost always travel as a family. But I'm thankful he'll be able to concentrate on rest and quiet during the few hours a day he won't be receiving treatment.

The Peace That Surpasses All Understanding

We can feel the prayers of the saints. I am so grateful for the outpouring of encouragement and everyone cheering him on. It means the world to us both.

It feels daunting to get everything ready here before we leave - from work to home life - but we are so grateful for everyone who is helping make this trip possible. Our home group has been an incredible support, along with many neighbors, family, and friends.

As we prepare and leave, please pray for:

  • All the details and things to do before we leave on Sunday come together seamlessly

  • Our children and their hearts - I know they will miss their daddy terribly

  • Safe and smooth travel

  • All the wonderful friends and family taking shifts with our kids, bringing meals, and helping keep our little homestead going (plus keeping lots of animals alive)

  • And of course, for complete and total healing.

I've learned a long time ago, the Lord can use whatever and whoever He wants to accomplish His purposes, and this is no exception. It still feels surreal most days and sometimes overwhelming, but the "joy of the Lord is our strength," and we're holding fast to that.

Our loving, miracle-working Father, You are so good to us. Your timing and ways are perfect and we know that You have a good plan in all of this. Thank you that "Your grace is made perfect in our weakness" and we can fully rely on You to move mountains and supply all our needs. (And You do so in a way that's often greater than we even asked...)

Many of you have asked for ways to support our family right now. Some good friends of ours created a Meal Train with options for people who are not local. We are incredibly grateful for the incredible tribe around us!
